Spectrum Logic Lightweight Detectors

April 16, 2024

Spectrum Logic 1615HS, 2121HS-L and 3131HS_L detectors are now available in lightweight versions that have been developed for surgical C-arm, mini C-arm and robotic surgical imaging.  These detectors can also be used in other applications where a lightweight and low-profile detector is desirable, such as robotic Computed Tomography (CT) X-ray for quality assurance and non-destructive testing.  Spectrum Logic lightweight detectors are also used in backscatter mobile security X-ray.

In recent years, systems manufacturers’ have started to use robotic arms, both in medical and industrial applications. For example, in aerospace manufacturing, robotic systems can be used to test turbines, wings and engine parts.

Spectrum Logic lightweight detectors are particularly useful in dual-arm systems, sometimes known as ‘collaborative robot’ systems. These systems have two arms, one of which carries an X-ray source and the other a detector.  The robotic arms can be set up to work in unison and synchronised so that the relative position of the tube and detector remains the same throughout the inspection. The reduction of the lightweight detector’s weight compared to the standard product is beneficial. The slim form factor of the lightweight detectors also allows the imaging system to work in spaces that a full form detector could otherwise not reach.

What are the advantages of Spectrum Logic’s lightweight models for customers?

“Customers have found our lightweight detectors useful because the lower weight and the lower profile of these devices, in comparison to the standard product, facilitates simplified cabling and integration of the detector into the customer’s product. Unlike conventional detectors, the lightweight detectors give customers greater flexibility in terms of system design. Ultimately, a lighter detector can enable superior performance and a more cost competitive design for a robotic or C-arm X-ray system”.
